It burglar proofs and childproofs home windows. It's an extendable and adjustable bar made of two reinforced plastic cylinders designed to withstand impact. How do I insert the Lock-it Block-it?

Insertion Instructions:

  • No tools are needed.
  • Wipe the window’s surface area so that it is clean and dry.
  • Attach the adhesive Velcro to the back of the device.
  • Wedge the device into the top corner of the window.
  • The top of the device needs to be butted up against the top of the window frame so that it can't be move. Make sure the head of the Lock-it Block-it is firmly butted up against the top of the window frame. If it isn't, the Lock-it Block-it will fail to work properly and your safety will be compromised.
  • Press the device into the track or against the sash.
  • Press in the push pin and slide the inner cylinder to the desired position.
  • Release the push pin.
  • The Lock-it Block-it is locked and ready to use.
  • Wait at least 8 hours before trying to remove the device for the adhesive to set properly.
  • It's important to check each device periodically throughout the year to make sure it continues to adhere to the surface properly. Replace with good quality Velcro if needed.
  • How do I use the Lock-it Block-it?

The Lock-it Block-it is very simple to use. Once adhered to the window, simple press in the double-headed push pin and slide the inner cylinder either up or down to the desired window opening. The push pin will click into the desired hole and lock the Lock-it Block-it in the desired position. That's it.

What types of windows is the device made for?

The Lock-it Block-it is made to fit in upright windows, sliding windows, and sliding doors with tracks that are a minimum 1 inch wide. The device is perfectly suited for Single Hung windows. Because the top portions of Single-Hung windows are manufactured not to be opened, criminals can't reach in to remove the Lock-it Block-it.

How secure is the Lock-it Block-it?

The Lock-it Block-it is very secure because the top of the device is firmly butted up against the top corner of the window frame. When the bottom window comes in contact with the Lock-it Block-it, the device can't be moved. Also, the Velcro adhesive, which holds the Lock-it Block-it in place, isn't compromised at all because the device doesn't move. However, it is very important that the Lock-it Block-it be inserted properly. Make sure the head of the device is firmly butted up against the top of the window frame so that it can't be moved. It's also important to check the Lock-it Block-it periodically to make sure it remains secured in its position. Over time, gravity will cause the Velcro to slip. Simply replace the Velcro and reinsert the device.

How will this device help to prevent children from falling out of windows?

To protect toddlers and young children from accidently falling out of windows, experts recommend that windows should not be opened more than 4 inches max. Toddlers have been known to fall out of windows or get trapped in windows that are opened 5 inches or more. The Lock-it Block-it is ideally suited to help prevent accidents because it can be adjusted in 1 inch increments. Windows can be adjusted for openings of 1 inch or more depending on the size of the window, and then locked into position at that set opening.

    Can I return the product?

The Lock-it Block-it has a 30 day money back guarantee. Receive a full refund for devices that are not damaged and returned within 30 days of the shipment date. Original receipt must accompany the returned product. If an original receipt isn't present, Lock-it Block-it, LLC will not be able to honor the product return request. For additional information, refer to the "Warranty and Disclaimers" section at bottom of this page.

How will this device help to prevent burglars from entering through my windows?

To prevent criminals from forcing their way into open windows, law enforcement and security professionals recommend that windows should not be left opened for more than 4-5 inches. The Lock-it Block-it allows for adjustment of 1 inch or more. This means people can keep their windows open and locked in at the recommended height. Criminals can't reach the Lock-it Block-it and therefore can't remove it. The thickness of the reinforced plastic (a combination of PVC and ABS plastic) and the specially made double-headed push pin, blocks the window or sliding door from being opened. Per studies, criminals usually don't spend more than 60 seconds trying to break into a home. The Lock-it Block-it makes it very difficult for them to achieve their goal. For the best protection and effectiveness, it's recommended to use two devices per window.

Will the Lock-it Block-it obstruct my view?

The Lock-it Block-it sits in the window out of site. It doesn't obstruct the view. When in the window track, it can barely be seen. For windows with curtains, the device won't be seen at all. This is a huge difference compared to window bars, grills, and gates. Those devices look unappealing, block the view, and makes people feel like prisoners within their home.

How is the Lock-it Block-it any better than the other products in this category?

The Lock-it Block-it was made to take the guess work out of safety. The Lock-it Block-it is much more secure than other devices on the market such as the screw-in pins or rubber-like devices you adhere to the glass. Those can be compromised by burglars with a little extra effort. The Lock-it Block-it can't be moved or reached by criminals and is held firmly in place. Those other devices aren't as adjustable as the Lock-it Block-it. With the push of a pin, you can easily adjust your window opening. The other devices require much more effort. Some of the other devices obstruct the homeowner's view and damage the window.

Can I use the Lock-it Block-it in my Double Hung window?

The Lock-it Block-it is only recommended as a security device for Double Hung windows when it's used as a secondary locking device when the window is completely shut.

When left open, because double hung windows can be opened from the top, the Lock-it Block-it can be reached and removed by criminal. As a work around, the Lock-it Block-it could be permanently attached to the window structure. However, permanent attachment is not recommended as this can cause permanent blocking of the exit in the event of an emergency.

I have windows that wind out. Can I use the Lock-it Block-it in those windows?

The Lock-it Block-it is not recommended for windows with cranks, or windows that push outward, or pull inward.

Can I stick the Lock-it Block-it directly on the glass?

It is not recommended that the Lock-it Block-it be adhered to the glass pane of the window. Direct sunlight and changing temperatures could compromise the effectiveness of the adhesive which could severely limit the effectiveness of the device. The adhesive should be applied only to the plastic, wood, or metal track or sash of the window.

What size windows does the Lock-it Block-it fit in?

The Lock-it Block-it fits in windows and sliding doors ranging from 42 inches (3.5 feet tall or wide) to 72 inches (6 feet tall or wide). To find your approximate window size, measure your full window length from the window pane to the inside of the top window track.

How much does the device weigh?

What do I use to adhere the Lock-it Block-it to the window or sliding door?

The Lock-it Block-it can be attached to a surface of a window structure based on the customer's preference. An ideal means of attachment is the use of a Velcro. When properly attached, Velcro is very effective for holding the Lock-it Block-it in place without any threat of loosening or falling out. A minimum of two, 1 inch strips of Velcro is supplied with the device. However, it's recommended that customers purchase longer strips to be used with the supplied Velcro.

Once inserted, do I need to check the Lock-it Block-it?

Periodically check the device to confirm that the Lock-it Block-it remains securely in place. Pull on the Lock-it Block-it. If it easily detaches, firmly press it back into place, then try to remove it again. If it detaches too easily, replace the Velcro strips with a new set of medium to heavy duty Velcro purchased from a retail outlet. You can also apply longer lengths of Velcro for a more secure fit. It is not recommended to use pre-cut Velcro pieces as these sometimes aren't medium to heavy duty strength.

How thick are the walls of the device?

What type of plastic is the Lock-it Block-it made of?

Why are there two sets of holes on opposite sides?

The Lock-it Block-it has two sides that contain separate series of adjustment holes. One side has a series of 13 holes for smaller adjustments of approximately 1 inch each. The other side has a series of 7 holes for wider adjustments of approximately 2 inches each. The wider adjustments accommodate for faster adjusting. Just remove the inner cylinder, turn it around, and slid it back in to use either series of holes for adjustments.

What's the purpose of the rubber ends?

The head and the foot of the Lock-it Block-it are fitted with rubber caps to protect the window from being scratched by the Lock-it Block-it.

Why is the foot of the device extended?

The foot of the Lock-it Block-it has an elongated rubber cap. This is to accommodate older windows that may have large gaps between the window and the window frame.

The Lock-it Block-it is currently available in one color - white.

These discounts will eventually pay for the cost of the Lock-it Block-it. Example: One package of two Lock-it Block-it devices cost $21.99. A 5% discount on an annual $600 insurance policy equals a $30 saving each year ($600 x 5% = $30). In the first year, the savings paid for the cost of the Lock-it Block-it. That's like getting the Lock-it Block-it for free. For every year following, the Lock-it Block-it makes the home owner $30 a year. The device pays for itself and helps homeowners make money. That's a great deal.

In the event of an emergency, can I easily remove the Lock-it Block-it?

The Lock-it Block-it is removable. In the case of an emergency, or to switch windows, the device can be removed by pulling it from the Velcro. Simply re-attach the Lock-it Block-it by firmly pressing it back into position. Make sure the head of the Lock-it Block-it is firmly butted up against the top of the window frame. Has the Lock-it Block-it been tested?

The Lock-it Block-it has been tested by law enforcement and home security specialist. They tested the device in actual homes with the home owners. Some of the findings are as follows:

  • Compared to other devices that the experts have seen in the market that fall into the same category, the Lock-it Block-it was amongst the best at deterring criminals.
  • Experts recommend that windows and doors only be left open no more than 4 inches because this makes it harder for criminals to get in. The Lock-it Block-it is especially suited for this. The 13 holes allow for 1 inch opening increments.
  • People really liked the level of adjustments of the device because it gives them control of how high or wide they can keep their windows and doors open. A wood block or broomstick doesn't do this.
  • The Lock-it Block-it held up under impact. The officers were more concerned about damaging the homeowner's windows rather than the device.
  • People loved the fact that there was now a device that they could place in their upright windows without it falling out. Some people liked that the Lock-it Block-it didn't deface the window in any way.
  • The dimensions were perfect. The device was tested in older built homes, homes built in the 1970's, and newer homes. The device was also tested in wood, aluminum, and vinyl windows. The security experts didn't see any problem with the width and how it fit in the windows.
  • The biggest problem the officers saw was that there are so many different types of windows being manufactured, that this device wouldn't be a solution for all windows. Many homes have sliding doors with a rod in the track. Although the Lock-it Block-it worked perfectly well, some people didn't like that it didn't sit perfectly flat in the door's track. This challenged the perception and confidence level of the homeowner.
